Allergy ~vs~ Sensitivity

When you have a reaction to a food, you can have different immune responses.

An allergy is an immediate IgE antibody response. Like a peanut allergy sending someone into anaphylaxis. The body is responding right here and right now.

Think of it this way… a peanut allergy sends someone right into anaphylaxis and that is

life threatening. Very obvious to see and is emergency status, yet you can heal from

that.

A food sensitivity is a delayed IgA, IgG or IgM antibody response. Here is where your

body’s response is not so immediate, yet can be just as damaging.

Most people with a food sensitivity tell me that they experience digestive issues whenever they eat a certain food. For example, if you get a stomach ache after eating pizza,

that is a sensitivity.

The problem with a food sensitivity is that you acquire an auto-immune response every

time you eat it. In so doing, your immune system attacks something else in your body

that is similar in chemical structure to the sensitivity.

People with a gluten sensitivity can have an auto-immune reaction to 14 different components of gluten. Depression, anxiety, Hashimotos, cerebellar degeneration, movement disorders and the list goes on and on.

Another way to look at is, an allergy may hurt you right now, whereas a sensitivity will

beat you up slowly.

We have testing methods for sensitivity and auto-immunity. That way, you can know

what to avoid, instead of guessing.
